Mentoring in Organisations
Overview
Mentoring is an ongoing process of enabling someone to develop their potential and performance within a particular context. By its very nature it tends to involve helping someone address some of their performance blocks, which they may or may not be aware of. When done well it can produce astounding long-term results in terms of changes in confidence, self-esteem and capability.
In order to be done well, mentoring requires skill, versatility and a high level of rapport by the mentor. These skills can be learned.

- Know what makes a good mentor
- Know how to recognise the level of the performance block
- Be able to create the right environment for a mentoring session
- Know how to move from problems to outcomes when mentoring others
- Be aware of limiting beliefs that impede motivation and performance
- Be able to use a non-directive questioning style so that the mentoree has ownership of any agreed development plans
